Canyon

The giant Canyon map features an abandoned mining complex in a massive rocky desert. With wide open spaces and sporadic cover, this map is a sniper’s dream. Several spawn locations mean that unless you start off with a shielded bot, pilots will have to run for cover fast.

Built symmetrically on a diagonal, there are two beacons, “A” and “E”, located wide in the corners while two more beacons, “B” and “D”, flank the center “C” beacon of the map.

Strategy

The center beacon attracts plenty of fire from all angles. There is little cover to hide behind if an enemy Red pushes wide. From the off, quick and shielded bots should head to the outskirts of the map to cap their close beacon and hit a bridge to the opposing side’s turf. Cover is available there and as long as you keep distance from the opposing spawn point, you should be safe from long range fire… save a Gekko blast or two. This is a great technique for grabbing the enemy “B” or “D” beacon as it can be left unguarded while bots leave to fight for the middle. If a Red stays home, this is a great flank technique.

Slower and more powerful bots generally push towards the middle for center-beaconing capping and positioning while engaging in close-quarter combat. Always keep an eye on moving enemy Reds to keep cover from snipers taking potshots. Underneath the centrally-located bridge is a dried-out riverbed which offers more cover than on top of the bridge. Given its central location and raised elevation, the top of the bridge until the late game when few enemies are left, is a kill zone.
