Ancile

Game Description:

Ancile is a defensive item. Provides composite protection against firearms and missile weapons. Does not protect against energy weapons. Forms a protective sphere that affects all robots within its area of effect. Upon taking damage, shield loses capacity that regenerates over time. Shield capacity regeneration speed: 3% of maximum capacity per second. If shield is depleted, a minimum capacity of 20% is required for its reactivation.

When a ECU just won’t cut it, go for the Ancile. An energy shield for the ages, the Ancile runs a pricey 1,500 gold but it’s worth every penny. See what I did there? Affix the Ancile to any heavy hardpoint (except on Butch) and a blue-honeycomb shaped field measured at 35m will shield you and your fellow pilots from harm.

Providing protection against everything but energy/plasma weapons, the Ancile is a popular defensive mechanism for the Lancelot – the Ancilot – a force-field protected bot with a built-in front shield which dominated the game for months until the Dash bots arrived. The Ancile provides protection not just for yourself but your teammates as well.

As for regeneration, like all energy shields (found on the Haechi, Fujin and Carnage), it regenerates at a rate of 3% every second. Experienced pilots know that the shield needs to be at a minimum of 20% to reactivate if it has been depleted by enemy fire. In addition, pilots will be wary of Thunders and Storms, as they deal double damage to energy shields. Punishers, Molots and Tempests also wreak havoc on Energy shields. Thunders are especially pesky as they can begin to deplete an Ancile field from as far out as 520m. The newly-released Ember completely bypasses Ancile and energy shields. Keep an eye out for them on the battlefield!

Two rumors that need to be addressed for the Ancile are as follows: enemy bots ability to enter the field and deal damage to the host bot and that the Ancile absorbs excess damage from firepower when being destroyed. The first is hit or miss, so to speak – enemy bots can indeed enter the Ancile’s protective field and fire upon the host bot however this technique is very difficult to pull off and of course to maintain a closeness of 35m is quite difficult. It is possible to pull it off, but not probable. And for seconds, if an enemy fires upon an Ancile with 500 health points left with say, a Trident, then the Ancile will actually absorb all the damage from that immediate missile salvo. The following shots/salvos will hit the host robot.

According to Wiki (and history), in ancient Rome the Ancile was a divine shield said to have fallen from the heavens. Eleven replicas were made in order to confuse thieves trying to steal the actual shield.
